Topic 1

1. What is the topic you are reading about? The topic I am reading about is water pollution.
2. What is the source citation? "Water Pollution." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 2 Oct. 2015.
3. Summarize the central idea. The article is about the water supplies diminishing due to a lack of precautions to keep water clean. Water covers most of the world but most of it is either salt water or polluted, in a couple of years there would be no water left.
4. List two to four specific details that support the central idea. Industrialization causes pollution to seep into the environment through toxic sludge and dangerous chemicals. People as individuals can help to put an end to pollution by reducing the amount of fertilizers used in gardens  and lawns.
5. Create an opportunity for further research by writing down two questions the text raises about the central idea (explicitly or implicitly). Explicit means stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt, while implicit means implied though not plainly expressed.  What had been done since 1987 to help conserve water? ; What countries can the U.S work with to make a huge impact on ending pollution reaching water?
6.Write down one word or phrase whose meaning you do not fully understand. "The Phosphates and nitrates found in fertilizer."
7.Next, write down what may be preventing you from understanding it (is it an unrecognizable term? an unfamiliar person, place, or allusion?) I am unfamiliar with what these chemicals are.
8.Use a third party resource (dictionary, thesaurus, Google search) to find its definition or meaning. Write it down. Nitrites are families of chemical compounds containing atoms of nitrogen and oxygen and Phosphates are essential to the growth of biological organisms, including both their metabolic and photosynthetic processes.
9.Write one question about the overview that you can pose to your peers in a discussion. Have any of you tried to conserve water in any way?

  1. Aaron, I need you to change the background to white so I can read this more easily. Otherwise this is very good. You are doing the assignment exactly as it should be done.
