Topic 3

1. What is the topic you are reading about? Western U.S Droughts
2. What is the source citation? Just copy and paste it from the bottom onto your blog. "Western US Droughts." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 10 Oct. 2015.
3. Summarize the central idea of the overview in one or two sentences. There have been severe droughts in California restricting farming and nothing can be done. Drought in California affect the ecosystem and could cause endangered species to become extinct.
4.List two to four specific details that support the central idea. California is a top farm state and produces one third of vegetables in the U.S. Wildfires are becoming more and more frequent in California because of the droughts that are occurring.
5.Create an opportunity for further research by writing down two questions the text raises about the central idea (explicitly or implicitly). Explicit means stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt, while implicit means implied though not plainly expressed. What can be done during times of Drought to help California in times of drought?; What are the long term affects of droughts in California.
6. Write down one word or phrase whose meaning you do not fully understand. Jerry Brown
7.Next, write down what may be preventing you from understanding it (is it an unrecognizable term? an unfamiliar person, place, or allusion?) I do not know who Jerry Brown is or what he does?
8.Use a third party resource (dictionary, thesaurus, Google search) to find its definition or meaning. Write it down. Jerry Brown is the 39th governor of California.
9.Write one question about the overview that you can pose to your peers in a discussion. What would you do if you were in the place of Jerry Brown and had to find a solution to the drought issue in California?
